Dental implants are a long-term solution to missing teeth

Dental implant surgery offers a lasting solution for individuals seeking to replace missing or damaged teeth and is best performed by a highly trained and experienced oral and maxillofacial surgeon. When you choose one of our certified specialists, you benefit from their extensive knowledge and proficiency in handling the complexities of bone, soft tissue and nerves.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants serve as artificial tooth roots and are made of small titanium rods. These rods are surgically implanted into the jawbone, where they undergo a process called osseointegration, fusing to the surrounding bone. Once the implants have fully healed, they provide a strong and stable foundation for the attachment of replacement teeth.

What if my jawbone is not suitable for a dental implant?

Bone grafts can be performed to augment the jawbone, allowing the appropriate dimensions for the successful placement of a dental implant. In cases in which bone grafts are required, the treatment timeline may be extended compared to cases without grafting. With the use of bone grafts, the outcome can still be as favorable as cases where grafting is unnecessary.

What is the timeline for a dental implant procedure?

The duration of a dental implant procedure can vary based on its complexity. In certain instances, the procedure can be completed in a single day. However, in most cases it will take approximately 8 to 12 weeks for the implant to fully integrate and stabilize before a crown can be placed on it. For more intricate cases, the process may take 3 to 6 months to reach completion.

Implants require a dental team

At Oral Surgery & Implant Specialists BayCare Clinic, we collaborate with your dentist to ensure the best possible outcome for you.

After the dental implant has been placed by our specialist, the restorative dentist takes over and fabricates a prosthetic tooth or crown, ensuring a natural, functional result.  The restorative dentist also manages any necessary follow-up care to ensure the long-term success of the dental implant restoration.
