We are the region’s longest-practicing neurological surgery team, combining more than 100 years of experience with innovative medical technology. This experience gives us a deep resource of knowledge so we can recommend the safest and most effective therapy for our patients. All of our neurosurgeons are board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.

Neurological Surgery

Our neurosurgeons remain at the forefront of rapidly changing medical advancements, providing you with better care. We perform the high-tech, leading edge procedures you'd expect from world-class neurological surgery centers.

We locally pioneered the use of vagal nerve stimulation for the treatment of depression and were the first in the region to offer deep brain stimulation for tremors and Parkinson's disease. Other regional firsts include preoperative embolization of a brain tumor and craniotomy for epilepsy treatment.

We were also among the first to use minimally invasive spinal fusion and artificial disc replacement to treat degenerative disc disease.

Other neurosurgery procedures:

  • Lumbar laminectomy
  • Decompressive spinal surgery
  • Spinal fusion
  • Total disc replacement
  • Image guided brain surgery
  • Stereotactic radiosurgery
  • Shunting for hydrocephalus

BayCare Clinic neurosurgeons continually seek ways to improve clinical practices and are active participants in the National Neurosurgery Quality & Outcomes Database (N²QOD), a continuous national clinical registry for neurological procedures and practice trends. Our neurosurgeon group is the first in Wisconsin to take part and is playing an integral role to define common neurosurgery quality standards and best practices—with the ultimate goal to improve patient care throughout the country.

This pioneering study’s purpose is to track, identify and define quality and safety standards for neurological procedures and to develop a comprehensive resource of surgical outcomes. BayCare Clinic is among the initial 36 practices across the country to enroll patients in this study. N²QOD participation offers our neurosurgery team unprecedented quality data, which gives patients the most up-to-date information on procedures and leads to more successful outcomes.
