New treatment helps reduce cellulite

Tue, Nov 2, 2021

A new, non-surgical treatment is helping adult women enjoy life with less cellulite.

The treatment, QWO, or collagenase clostridium histolyticum-aaes, is the first injectable treatment for cellulite in the buttocks. It’s approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

QWO is available at Plastic Surgery & Skin Specialists by BayCare Clinic, the first Green Bay-based clinic to offer the treatment.

“This is a unique treatment option,” says Janelle Klubertanz, aesthetic and clinical services manager with Plastic Surgery & Skin Specialists by BayCare Clinic. “It has been specifically developed to target and reduce cellulite in the buttocks.”

Cellulite is often seen around the hips, thighs, stomach and buttocks in women.

The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery estimates that more than 85 percent of women over the age of 21 have cellulite. It’s not commonly found in men.

During treatment, an injector specialist administers QWO to the problem areas. Treatment typically requires three office visits. The visits are scheduled over three-week intervals.

“Each QWO treatment session takes about 30 minutes,” Klubertanz says. “The injection process is similar to what patients would experience with Botox, Kybella or a similar aesthetics-related injection treatment.

“Consult your aesthetic specialist, plastic surgeon or dermatology services provider if considering QWO for your skin care needs,” she adds.
