Meet Dr. Bob Zemple, emergency medicine physician
Thu, May 17, 2018
“Because of some great experiences in the field, I started thinking about a career in emergency medicine even before I started medical school. It’s considered taboo because you’re not supposed to really pick beforehand because it clouds your judgment,” he says. “Nonetheless, I kept it on my radar and it rang true and became an easy decision.”
His decision to choose BayCare Clinic was even easier.
“I rotated here as a medical student and I knew this was an area I wanted to come back to,” Zemple says. “When that became a real possibility, it was a no-brainer. This is where I felt the most welcome. I recognized everyone treated each other like family, all working towards a common goal of the best patient care possible.”
Since starting, his day-to-day life as an emergency medicine physician was exactly what he had hoped for.
“The job keeps me on my toes,” Zemple says. “As my wife says, I over-ambitiously strive to complete tasks quickly. Emergency medicine blends my personality well because I’m working toward thorough and rapid turnarounds on patient encounters and I’m making significant progress in short periods of time.”
Outside of his emergency medicine shifts, Zemple spends time doing electrical work with friends.
“I really enjoy working with my hands and being able to use a different part of my brain. When I leave the ER, I can flip my brain to the other side and do something completely different, which is very satisfying and very rewarding.”
When he’s not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and their four children. He’s also an avid runner, hunter, and because he has had his pilot’s license since age 18, he also spends time flying.
Though busy, Zemple wouldn’t change a thing about the path he’s chosen. Annual medical mission trips to Haiti continue to remind him of the importance of his work.
“On my first trip in 2008, I realized there is something that exists which is more precious than possessions or time and it’s the positive impact on people’s lives and healthcare. That’s what really motivated me to pursue this career.”
Dr. Bob Zemple is an emergency medicine physician with BayCare Clinic. He sees patients in Green Bay, Oshkosh, and Two Rivers.
