Meet Dr. Andrea Federman, audiologist
Thu, Jan 17, 2019
Federman started college undecided about a major. There, an assessment test helped steer her toward audiology.
“The first one that came up was a pharmacist, the second a speech pathologist, and number three was an elementary education teacher,” Federman says of the assessment test.
After taking a course in speech pathology, she knew she’d found her calling.
“I immediately decided that was the route I was going to go,” she says. “When I got to the audiometry class, I really liked it and thought it was cool. I’m a problem-solution type of person. In audiology, there’s a problem when you can’t hear. So, you do a test and come up with a solution.”
Since joining BayCare Clinic as a doctor of audiology – the highest degree of expertise that can be attained by an audiologist – she hasn’t looked back.
Federman diagnoses and treats various symptoms and all degrees of hearing impairment, including mild hearing loss, moderate hearing loss and severe hearing loss.
“It was an area I never thought I’d go into and never heard of it until I took all the undecided coursework and assessments,” Federman says. “That’s where I’ve been ever since.”
She loves that each day is different and she’s able to treat people for their hearing loss.
“One of my favorite parts of my job is that first time you put hearing aids on a child and their whole face lights up. They’re able to actually hear what they’ve been missing,” Federman says. “It makes me feel like I did my job right.”
In her spare time, Federman enjoys reading, scrapbooking and, most importantly, spending time with her family.
“I’m married. My husband is a special education teacher at West De Pere,” she says. “We have two kids. My husband is a football coach, my daughter is a singer, and my son is currently a freshman at UW-Madison.”
Dr. Andrea Federman is an audiologist with Hearing Center BayCare Clinic. She sees patients in Green Bay.
