Happy Doctors’ Day
Fri, Mar 30, 2018
March 30 is National Doctors' Day in the United States, a day set aside to show appreciation for doctors' contributions to the nation's health care.
The first Doctors' Day observance was March 30, 1933 in Winder, Georgia. That's when Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, designated a day to honor physicians. This first observance included mailing greeting cards to physicians and placing flowers on graves of deceased doctors.
On March 30, 1958, the U.S. House of Representatives adopted a resolution commemorating Doctors' Day. In 1990, legislation was introduced in the House and Senate to establish a national Doctors' Day and on Oct. 30, 1990, President George Bush signed it into law, designating March 30 as "National Doctors' Day."
