Jason George DeVries, DPM, and Brandon M Scharer, DPM, foot and ankle surgeons with Orthopedics & Sports Medicine BayCare Clinic, published an article in the January 2019 edition of The Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery.

The journal is the leading source for original, clinically-focused articles on foot and ankle procedures. All articles are peer-reviewed.

Their journal submission, “Ankle Stabilization with Arthroscopic Versus Open with Suture Tape Augmentation Techniques,” examined two approaches to treating ankle instability. The article’s data determines “that both methods of stabilization are reasonable for ankle instability repair.”

Ankle instability occurs when the outer or lateral side of the ankle constantly “gives way.” It often develops after repeated ankle sprains. The condition can occur anytime including while walking, running or while standing still.

DeVries is board certified in foot surgery and reconstructive rear foot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He sees patients in Green Bay and Manitowoc.

Scharer is board certified in foot surgery and reconstructive rear foot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He sees patients in Green Bay, Kaukauna, and Marinette.
