Nick Grimm, a certified physician assistant with Plastic Surgery & Skin Specialists by BayCare Clinic, was interviewed by WBAY Channel 2 News for a story about a skin condition called “maskne” or mask-related acne.


Skin experts say masking associated with efforts to prevent COVID-19 are fueling the rise in maskne cases.

“It’s just a unique phenomenon because we’re dealing with a global pandemic,” Grimm says. “You’re breathing. It’s hot. You’re sweating into your mask. It’s really not so much what the material is necessarily. It’s just the fact that it’s coming into contact with your skin and occluding the skin for a long period of time.”
