Dr. Jane Witman of BayCare Clinic Emergency Physicians was interviewed for a TV news story examining parents’ long-term drug use and the effects that may have on their children.

The WBAY Channel 2 News interview focused primarily on fentanyl but also touched on other illegal drugs, including heroin, crack cocaine and edibles.

“We know what happens when babies are exposed in utero,” Witman says. “They come out smaller. They have some learning difficulties. They may have problems with attention. What we don’t know is how many babies are being poisoned, essentially at a low level, because (the drugs are) in the environment.”

The interview aired Friday. It is available online. Watch it here.
