BayCare Clinic food drive for Paul's Pantry

Fri, Jun 30, 2017

GREEN BAY – BayCare Clinic is looking to feed a lot of families in need this summer and could use some help.

The clinic is holding a food drive throughout July – from Monday, July 3, to Friday, July 28 – to benefit Paul’s Pantry in Green Bay. The pantry needs the food donations to help feed the hundreds of families it sees daily.

BayCare Clinic hopes to fill four donation barrels – each is 2 feet tall and 2 feet wide – with non-perishable food items. The barrels will be placed in the patient waiting area on the third floor at Aurora BayCare Medical Center, 2845 Greenbrier Road (north of the gold elevators on the third floor, near the cardiology department); at BayCare Clinic Eye Specialists, 2253 West Mason St.; at The Orthopedic Urgent Care, 2020 Riverside Drive; and at the front desk at BayCare Clinic headquarters, 1035 Kepler Drive, all in Green Bay.

Paul’s Pantry also is seeking donations of health, beauty and hygiene products.

“This is another way we can help fulfill a clearly identified need within our community,” said Dr. Kerry Ahrens, an emergency medicine physician with BayCare Clinic. “We’re seeking the public’s help with making this food drive a success.”

Donations of any size are welcome.

“We’re grateful for any donations the doctors at BayCare Clinic, their staff and members of the public can offer our pantry,” Paul’s Pantry manager Angie Allard said. “The donations will help us attain our goal of providing each family in need that seeks our assistance with enough food each week so that they can use their food dollars for shelter, utilities and other necessities, and avoid becoming homeless.”

The shelter has a needed food list but generally welcomes donations of canned and dry soups, heat-and-eat items (baked beans, corned beef hash, etc.), Tuna and Hamburger Helper, cereal, oatmeal and more. They also welcome non-food items such as toothpaste, deodorant and soap.

The pantry distributes up to 22,000 pounds of donated food each day.

“Unfortunately, there is a growing need for these donations,” Allard said. “But with the combined efforts of gracious organizations like BayCare Clinic and caring members of the general public, we’re confident we’ll be able to continue to meet that need.”
