GREEN BAY – Four BayCare Clinic experts were honored during a research and medical education gala held Thursday, Oct. 1 on the Aurora BayCare Medical Center campus.
The annual event recognizes physicians and medical staff for advancing research and medical education.
Drs. Danqing and Danzhu Guo, BayCare Clinic Pain & Rehab Medicine, and Drs. Brandon Scharer and Jason George DeVries, both of Orthopedics & Sports Medicine BayCare Clinic, were honored Thursday night for their innovative approaches to patient care and delivery of medicine.
The Guos were presented the Innovation Award for their groundbreaking alternate technique for improving the surgical procedure of carpal tunnel release.
The procedure uses a local anesthetic, a proprietary metal impregnated thread, and a specially designed needle to cut through the tough, fibrous band that causes carpal tunnel syndrome. The needle and thread are manipulated using ultrasound guidance.
Scharer and DeVries were presented the Principal Investigator Award. The duo was honored for their research on “The use of allograft bone morphogenetic protein in foot and ankle arthrodesis” and “The comparison of chevron and distal oblique osteotomy for bunion correction.”
Another award of note was presented to Dr. Paul Summerside, former chief medical officer for BayCare Clinic. He earned a Lifetime Achievement Award.
