Aurora BayCare’s inaugural bariatric webinar a hit
Fri, Mar 11, 2016
Dr. Daniel T. McKenna, a bariatric surgeon with Aurora BayCare, hosted a bariatric surgery webinar on Tuesday night that drew participants from as far south as Slinger and as far north as Pembine.
The webinar, a first for the health system’s bariatrics department, lasted just over one hour. It was designed as a convenient and free opportunity for people interested in the weight-loss procedure to get information about the surgery and direct questions directly to McKenna. He provided instant responses to all questions and comments.
“By offering this online, we felt it would be the perfect forum for people to learn about their bariatric surgery options and whether they indeed are candidates for such a procedure,” McKenna said. “We wanted to break down any barriers preventing people from seeking information on bariatric surgery. Tuesday was a great opportunity to accomplish that and it’s our goal to offer more of these webinars in the future.”
The webinar is an example of the health system’s continued embrace of technologies that make some aspects of patient care more convenient for patients and providers alike, said Michael Schmidt, senior manager of business development at BayCare Clinic.
“This will definitely be a trend for providers at Aurora BayCare and BayCare Clinic,” he said. “We’re already in early talks with physicians from our plastic surgery, anti-aging and pain and rehab medicine departments. I see us doing this on an increasingly regular basis.”
Tuesday night’s webinar included participants from 15 communities across Wisconsin and two in Michigan. The communities were Appleton, Crivitz, De Pere, Fond du Lac, Green Bay, Marinette, Milwaukee, Neenah, Oshkosh, Pembine, Peshtigo, Shawano, Slinger, Suamico and Wausaukee in Wisconsin, and Menominee and Wells in Michigan.
