ACTION Registry- GWTG Platinum award recognizes high standards of care
Aurora BayCare Medical Center has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR ACTION Registry – GWTG Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2016. Aurora BayCare Medical Center is one of the 233 hospitals across the nation to receive this award.
“Our caregivers are dedicated to the well-being of our patients, especially those who are coming to us with life threatening ailments,” said Dr. William T. Witmer, director of cardiology at Aurora BayCare Medical Center. “We strive to reach, exceed and improve these guidelines, in order to make sure our patients receive the best care possible when they are experiencing one of the scariest times in their lives. We are proud to recognize our caregivers for their tremendously hard work and dedication.”
The ACTION Registry award recognizes a hospital’s commitment and success in a higher standard of care for patients who have suffered a heart attack. Aurora BayCare Medical Center has proven its dedication to following the guidelines and recommendations outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association.
In order to receive the Platinum award, a hospital must have followed treatment guidelines in the ACTION Registry – GWTG Premier for eight consecutive quarters. The hospital must also perform at the top level of standards in specific categories and implement quality improvement measures in order to achieve the best quality of care for its patients.
It is estimated that more than 700,000 Americans suffer heart attacks every year, according to the Center for Disease Control. A heart attack occurs when a blood clot partially or completely blocks blood flow to the heart muscle. There are many treatment guidelines including administering aspirin upon arrival and discharge, timely restoration of blood flow to the blocked artery, smoking cessation counseling and cardiac rehabilitation, among others.
