Aurora BayCare Medical Center has earned re-accreditation for its bariatric surgery center from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program.

Dr. Daniel T. McKenna and Dr. Anna Pierce, both bariatric surgeons with Aurora BayCare, are the only specialists in the greater Green Bay area offering bariatric services.

Following a thorough peer review based on nationally accepted criteria for bariatric surgery, the program accredits inpatient and outpatient bariatric surgical centers in the United States and Canada. This demonstrates a bariatric surgical center’s ability to manage specified physical resources, human resources and practice standards. The accreditation program’s database collects data from all certified centers.

“Re-accreditation from the MBSAQIP not only ensures that quality requirements are met but also encourages continual improvement,” Pierce says. “As a result, our patients can expect to consistently receive the first-class care they need and deserve from our bariatric team.”

Accreditation encourages bariatric surgery centers to adhere to consistent standards and continually enhance their quality and safety.

“In addition to surgeons, our bariatric surgery team includes dietitians, psychologists, psychiatrists, physician assistants and a clinical care coordinator,” McKenna says. “They assist patients before and after surgery.

“Bariatric surgery and medical weight loss each can be a challenging experience for patients. That’s why it’s important to be an MBSAQIP-accredited center. It ensures that we continue to maintain the highest possible standards of bariatric and medical weight-loss care to the benefit of our patients and their families.”
