Aurora BayCare Cardiology cath lab earns accreditation

The American College of Cardiology awarded Aurora BayCare Medical Center’s cath lab the Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation with PCI for demonstrating its expertise and commitment to treating patients.

That patient care includes diagnostic catheterizations and percutaneous coronary intervention procedures. A percutaneous coronary intervention or PCI is a non-surgical procedure that relieves symptoms of heart disease or reduces heart damage during or after a heart attack.

Aurora BayCare’s cardiac cath lab earned the accreditation in May. The accreditation was earned based on the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients.

“This accreditation illustrates the commitment our team has to ensuring we consistently provide our patients the best possible clinical outcomes and superior cardiovascular care,” said Dr. Scott Weslow, an interventional cardiologist with Aurora BayCare Cardiology and medical director of Cardiac Cath Lab. “You truly are in good hands when you entrust your heart care to us.”

The three-year accreditation is indicative of the hospital’s “ongoing commitment to reduce cardiovascular disease morbidity and mortality,” said Cathleen Gates, interim chief executive officer with the American College of Cardiology.

“Aurora BayCare Medical Center’s Cardiac Cath Lab has demonstrated its commitment to providing northeast Wisconsin with excellent heart care,” said Phillip D. Levy, MD, FACC, chair of the ACC Accreditation Management Board. “ACC Accreditation Services is proud to award Aurora BayCare Medical Center’s cardiac cath lab with Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation with PCI.”

Hospitals receiving Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation with PCI have met or exceeded an array of stringent criteria and have organized a team of doctors, nurses, clinicians and other administrative staff that earnestly support the efforts leading to improved patient outcomes.
