Textured implant recall

In August 2019, the Food and Drug Administration issued a large-scale recall of all BIOCELL textured breast implants due to an increased risk of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL).

The providers at Plastic Surgery & Skin Specialists by BayCare Clinic understand this might be concerning to patients.

It’s important to note that the FDA does not recommend removal of these or other types of breast implants in patients who have no symptoms due to the low risk of developing BIA-ALCL.

Patients who have been identified as having the recalled implants are encouraged to consult with their primary care physician or a plastic surgeon – especially if you have tenderness or swelling around the implant area.

In the video below, Dr. Elizabeth O’Connor, plastic surgeon addresses concerns regarding these implants.
