About Mark Duffy, MD, PhD

Mark Duffy, MD, PhD, received his oculoplastics training at the Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital in New York City. He has practiced and taught aesthetic and reconstructive oculofacial plastic surgery at the University of Illinois-Chicago. He has also worked on spinal cord regeneration for many years before turning to wound healing and tissue regeneration research. Dr. Duffy also holds a patent on wound healing technology.

Surprisingly, as a child, Dr. Duffy believed he would grow up to be an architect or artist. He felt most suited to oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery, as no injury, tumor, disease, or droopy eyelid is the same. The repairs and rebuilding he does with the face and eye sockets are quite challenging but he is extremely rewarded and honored to have made a difference in his patients' lives.

There are a few times when there is no choice but to perform surgery. However, with Dr. Duffy's experience and modern technology, a lot can be accomplished without surgery. He likes to address all of his patients' needs individually and find what the best, not the easiest, options are for them.

Dr. Duffy wants his patients to feel confident and comfortable with his decisions. "Although my team and I can do a lot of positive things for our patients, I will let you know when I feel we can't meet your expectations or needs. I never question someone's desire for a second opinion and encourage it if there is any doubt."
