What’s causing my rash?

Imagine how many different things your skin encounters every single day. Many people encounter something during their life that causes their immune system to think it’s under attack. Their skin overreacts and send antibodies to help fight the invader (allergen). This results in a red, itchy rash where the substance was.
This is allergic contact dermatitis.
In this video, Nick Grimm, PA-C, at Plastic Surgery & Skin Specialists by BayCare Clinic, discusses allergic contact dermatitis, what triggers it and how it’s treated.
“We look at common triggers like metal,” Grimm says. “We even talk about all natural products…even all natural products can cause allergic contact dermatitis.”
Grimm sees patients of a wide variety of ages that suffer from allergic contact dermatitis – from teenagers to adults that struggle with skin reactions.
“When it gets to be two to three weeks and you’re suffering from this very itchy rash that’s disrupting your life, you should come in and at least have it evaluated,” Grimm says.
