Regenerative medicine, also known as orthobiologics, uses the body’s natural properties to initiate a healing response which can help ease pain and improve function, says Dr. Ryan Woods, a fellowship-trained non-operative sports medicine physician with Orthopedics & Sports Medicine BayCare Clinic.

Woods recently participated in a Facebook Live discussion session to discuss regenerative medicine, the types of regenerative medicine available at BayCare Clinic, and how these non-surgical treatment options tap into the body’s natural ability to heal.

According to Woods, There are two main types of regenerative medicine treatments available at Orthopedics & Sports Medicine BayCare Clinic: platelet-rich plasma and bone marrow aspirate concentrate.

In the video, Woods discusses these two treatment options in detail which can be used to treat arthritis, joint pain and acute and chronic tendon and ligament injuries.

Both procedures are performed in office under ultrasound guidance for accuracy and are coupled with physical therapy, he says.

If you’re suffering from chronic orthopedic issues and want to learn more about these treatment options watch the video above and request an appointment today.
