Watch as Dr. Thomas Wilkins, a physiatrist with BayCare Clinic Pain & Rehab Medicine, performs an ultrasound-guided injection.

Wilkins is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine.

Ultrasound-guided injections enable the doctor to clearly see the needle as it enters the body and as it’s guided to the injection location. This ensures medication is accurately delivered to the intended site.

“Ultrasound allows us to see things that we could not see just on physical exam alone,” says Wilkins. “It gives us a different way of looking at the tissues involved.”

It also allows you to precisely use a needle to deliver medication exactly where it needs to be, says Wilkins.

“You can use less medication because you can guarantee it will be delivered exactly where it needs to be,” he adds.

The patient, Jim Glass, has tendinitis in his left shoulder and bicep region, says Wilkins.

Jim has experienced pain in his shoulder for the past few years and routinely receives a pain medication injection every seven to eight months.

The difference is amazing, Jim says. “It kicks in about an hour afterwards and usually does the trick.”

The procedure takes minutes and provides more accurate pain management solutions for patients.

Dr. Wilkins sees patients in Green Bay, Sturgeon Bay and Kaukauna. To request an appointment, call 920-288-8377 or you can do so online.
