Holidays get loud. The more, the merrier, the louder.

If it's not your cousin's breakdown of the Packers game, it's Dad with the TV news turned way up.

If you say hi to Dad, and he doesn't answer, it might not be the TV's fault. Dad might be among the 40 million Americans between ages 20 and 69 experiencing hearing loss.

That’s why the specialists at Hearing Center BayCare Clinic encourage giving the gift of hearing this holiday season.

“When you notice a loved one consistently asking you to repeat yourself or simply nodding in response to a question that requires much more than a nod, it might be time to have them see an audiologist,” says Dr. Jessie Grzeca, an audiologist with Hearing Center BayCare Clinic. “The holidays are an ideal time to get that loved one to an audiologist to receive the gift of improved hearing.”

Aging and long-term exposure to loud noise can contribute to hearing loss. Most hearing loss cannot be reversed, but there are ways to improve a person’s diminished hearing.

The specialists at Hearing Center BayCare Clinic diagnose and treat various symptoms and degrees of hearing impairment, including mild, moderate and severe hearing loss.

“What differentiates us from other hearing experts is our strong emphasis on personalized care,” Grzeca says. “We provide individualized solutions for patients and ensure quality service and follow-up care once we help our patients arrive at the best hearing solution for them.”

Hearing solutions at Hearing Center BayCare Clinic include, but are not limited to:

Lyric hearing aid: This is a 24/7 wearable, shower-proof, extended-wear hearing aid. It is placed inside the ear canal, 4 millimeters from the eardrum, making it invisible. Lyric uses the ear’s natural anatomy to minimize background noise and deliver natural sound quality.

Phonak Marvel hearing aid: This state-of-the-art device offers a rich hearing experience – better hearing in noisy environments with less listening effort. It’s rechargeable and connects to smartphones, TVs and a variety of everyday electronics.

Bragi Dash Pro wireless earphones: The tailored Dash Pro is customized to fit the shape of the user’s ear canal and ensure audio isolation, meaning no loss of bass frequencies, detail or clarity. The wireless earphones can be worn all day, perfect for people with an active lifestyle. These earphones provide clear sound, even while swimming.

“When it comes to helping your loved one select a hearing solution, do your research,” Grzeca says. “It can be challenging to find the best hearing solution, so make sure you know exactly what’s included in your purchase. Does it simply include the hearing aid hardware or does it also include custom design, programming adjustments and other specific needs? These are questions a doctor of audiology is best qualified to answer.”
