The first steps when considering weight loss surgery
Wednesday, April 12, 2017
If you’ve been struggling with weight loss, surgery might be something to consider.
“Bariatric surgery is for patients who are seeking a surgical option for weight loss due to either failed or exhausted attempts at other forms of weight loss,” says Dr. Anna Pierce, a bariatric surgeon at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay.
“Typically, these patients have tried calorie counting and brand-name diets and either can’t maintain weight loss or can’t achieve weight loss with those methods.”
One of the most rewarding things about working with patients through this process is the changes Dr. Pierce sees in them following the surgery.
“What really strikes me is working with our patients after they’ve had the surgery,” Pierce says. “These are patients that are suddenly riding their bikes, coaching sports and playing with their children and grandchildren.”
