Rachel’s will to run

Rachel saw at least ten doctors for her painful hips before turning to orthopedic surgeon Jon Henry, MD. “My hips would click and pop and I would be sore and uncomfortable. I couldn’t sleep well at night,” Rachel said.
As a woman in her early 20s, many told Rachel that she was too young to have hip problems. “It was really annoying and frustrating,” she added. After years of pain, Dr. Henry found a tiny tear on Rachel’s hip labrum. There was extra bone over the hip socket which hindered the hip from fitting into the socket properly. Dr. Henry shaved off the extra bone on both of Rachel’s hips during out-patient arthroscopy procedures.
“Hip arthroscopy is one of the newest frontiers within sports medicine,” commented Dr. Henry. He has been performing this innovative procedure for over eight years. Learn more about the procedure here.
In the summer of 2014, Rachel was able to complete her first 5K – a goal she had for some time. Even more, Dr. Henry made Rachel feel comfortable during the two surgeries. She appreciated his availability, especially when she needed help after the surgeries, “If he didn’t answer, he would call back within five minutes,” Rachel added.
Listen as Rachel tells the story in her own words below.
