Happy 2018! Resolve to be healthy

Tuesday, January 2, 2018

As the new year arrives, resolve to live life better in 2018 than in 2017.

Some of our BayCare Clinic specialists share their thoughts on how to do that.

Dr. Joseph T. Bergmann, ophthalmologist, BayCare Clinic Eye Specialists

“Have an eye exam, something you should do every year. We’ll make sure you’re seeing properly, of course. We also check for a wide array of eye conditions, none more significant than glaucoma. It often comes on without notice and can take decades to cause vision loss. If we can catch glaucoma in its early stages, and if we can stop or slow the disease there, then we can keep you seeing and functioning fully throughout your life.”

January is Glaucoma Awareness Month.

Nick Grimm, dermatology services provider, Plastic Surgery & Skin Specialists by BayCare Clinic

“I have a number of patients that are going someplace warm during the winter or engage in a lot of winter outdoor activities. Wear sunscreen during the winter and use thicker moisturizers to prevent dryness that can lead to eczema.”

Dr. Lynn Wagner, physician, Integrative Lifestyle Medicine BayCare Clinic

“Set a goal to eat more than five servings of veggies per day and to drink enough water so that your urine is pale yellow. It’s a super simple way to amp up your health!”

A Green Smoothie can help you get all those veggies. Put ½ cup mango, 2 celery stalks, 4 large romaine lettuce leaves, 2 cups of loosely packed spinach, 2 parsley sprigs and 5 to 7 ice cubes in a high-powered blender. Add 2 to 3 cups of coconut water, until food is halfway covered. Blend for 1 minute. Add more liquid as needed for better consistency. Then enjoy!
