Get Your Rear in Gear: Parking aplenty
Wednesday, July 25, 2018
Parking for the fourth annual Get Your Rear in Gear-Green Bay on Saturday, Aug. 4, will be a breeze.
Participants and volunteers at the run/walk can park in the lots near the event’s start/finish line on the Aurora BayCare Medical Center campus at 2845 Greenbrier Road on Green Bay’s east side.
The run/walk begins at 9 a.m. and will wind its way around the hospital campus before snaking through nearby neighborhoods.
Get Your Rear in Gear is an effort to raise awareness of colon cancer and better educate the public about the importance of appropriate screenings and early detection. The race is a program of the Colon Cancer Coalition, a Minneapolis-based group that promotes national awareness of colon cancer and encourages increased use of screenings.
The event will feature a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) timed race and a 1.5-mile walk. There also will be a kids’ fun run. The day will include opportunities to celebrate colon cancer survivors and provide support for family members and caregivers left behind following a loved one’s fight with the disease.
Registration is $25 for adults and $15 for ages 12 and under through race day, then $30 for adults and $20 for ages 12 and under on race day. The kids’ fun run is $15.
The Get Your Rear in Gear 5K run/walk is expected to draw more than 350 participants, organizers say.
Aurora BayCare Medical Center is the event’s presenting sponsor.
