According to the American Cancer Society, over 200,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. The best way to treat breast cancer is to detect it early. Mammograms are the #1 way to detect a tumor before it can be felt by the patient. However, regular breast self exams are a way for the patient to keep a tab on things outside the doctor’s office. If a patient knows what is “normal” for her, she will also recognize quickly when something isn’t normal and she can contact her doctor.

What do we recommend? Women should begin monthly breast self exams at age 20. Also at that age, your primary physician should also incorporate a clinical breast exam (CBE) into your yearly check-up.

One less excuse! Sign up for a mammogram reminder here. Now, you’ll never forget this important life-saving test. Take a look at the infographic below to find out how to do a breast self exam.
