Andrea’s story: ‘Wonderful' carpal tunnel procedure
Tuesday, January 23, 2018
Andrea Graham couldn’t sleep, work or even hold a cup of coffee. That’s when she knew she needed relief from hand and wrist pain caused by carpal tunnel syndrome.
“I’ve had this going on since my first born – 13 years ago – and I just kept putting it off and putting it off,” says Andrea, who lives in Tigerton in western Shawano County.
She reached out to her regular doctor to discuss options for relief. She was hesitant about having traditional carpal tunnel surgery, in which the wrist is opened. Recovery from that can last anywhere from several weeks to several months.
“My life is just too busy to be off work for six weeks,” Andrea says.
Her doctor recommended the Thread Carpal Tunnel Release procedure, also known as the Guo Technique.
“She gave me his information and I went online and I watched some videos and it intrigued me because it was a quick turnaround and I needed that,” Andrea says. “We worked it out and my insurance was able to cover it. We got it done.”
Andrea had one hand done in September 2017 by Dr. Danzhu Guo. She had the other hand done just a week later.
“It was not a question if I was going to have the second hand done,” Andrea said.
After both procedures, Andrea saw the quick turnaround she’d hoped for.
“I do work on a computer a lot. I was able to go back to work really quickly,” she said.
Andrea encourages others with carpal tunnel to consider the minimally-invasive procedure.
“I have recommended it to others. I’ve told them the turnaround was wonderful. How fast it is, I mean you’re in and out of there within an hour,” she says. “I would let them know it was definitely worth it.”
Since having the procedure, life is good.
“I’m really glad I did it. I have no regrets at all,” Andrea says.
