Posted: December 14, 2011

BayCare Clinic is pleased to announce that Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation specialists Danzhu Guo, MD, and Thomas Wilkins, MD, have been awarded recognition by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) from the Back Pain Recognition Program (BPRP) for providing superior care to their patients suffering from low back pain. This recognition is valid for two years.

NCQA's Back Pain Recognition Program seeks to recognize clinicians and chiropractors that have met standards demonstrating delivery of superior care to millions of Americans who suffer from low back pain. The 13 clinical measures and 3 structural standards address the broad spectrum of low back pain and focus on underuse, misuse and overuse of treatment modalities. NCQA developed BCRP requirements from widely accepted medical evidence, with significant input from clinical specialists and health plan and employer representatives.

"Evidence-based guidelines have shown in a number of instances that a "less is more" philosophy is the right approach in treating low back pain," said NCQA President Margaret E. O'Kane. "The Back Pain Recognition Program identifies clinicians who avoid needless imaging and procedures that don't help patients. By earning Recognition, Dr. Guo and Dr. Wilkins have demonstrated that they consistently provide evidence-based care to their patients with low back pain."

Guo and Wilkins practice at BayCare Clinic Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, which has office locations in Green Bay, Marinette, Shawano, Sturgeon Bay and Two Rivers.

NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations. It also recognizes clinicians and practices in key areas of performance. NCQA is committed to providing health care quality information for consumers, purchasers, health care providers and researchers.
