BayCare Clinic is partnering with the Green Bay YMCA for its 41st Annual Ski &
Sports Sale. At this event, children can receive a FREE
snowsports helmet (compliments of BayCare Clinic) after becoming
better educated on the safety of wearing one.
Why are snowsports helmets important? A
1999 Consumer Protection Safety Commission special investigation
study of skiing and snowboarding head injuries indicated that
44 percent of injuries could be addressed by helmet use. The study
also showed that for children under 15 years of age, 53 percent of
head injuries are addressable by use of a helmet. In addition,
based upon a review of skiing- and snowboarding-related death
certificates, 11 deaths per year solely attributed to head injuries
might be addressed by the use of helmets. For more information on
snowsports helmet safety for kids, go to http://www.lidsonkids.org/
